High Profile Breaches and Mobile Devices are key spending drivers according to a report authored by Daniel Kennedy, former Wall Street Chief Information Security Officer and now Research Director for Information Security at TheInfoPro

NEW YORK, November 17, 2011 – TheInfoPro, a division of leading analyst and data company The 451 Group, recently released the findings from its bi-annual study of the Information Security market, where the source of the data is in-depth, one-on-one interviews with over 150 decision-makers in the Global 2000. Key findings include:

Information Security spend is strong with many diverse drivers:

Directionally for 2012, Information Security Professionals are not planning a slowdown. Thirty-seven percent are planning an increase in spend, with 16% planning a decrease.

Thirty-nine percent are spending more in 2011 vs. 2010, and only 15% are spending less – showing the resiliency of the market in challenging economic times.

In the one-on-one interviews, decision-makers detailed compliance, mobile devices and preventing data loss as the drivers for spending increases.

Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) and Application-Aware Firewalls are products on the move:

Data Leakage Prevention (DLP) resides in the top spot of TheInfoPro’s proprietary Information Security Technology Heat Index™, which gauges immediacy of planned implementation for 40 technologies, as the G2000 look to protect custodial and intellectual property data from leaking out of their environment. The traditional antivirus vendors, Symantec (SYMC) and Intel’s (INTC) McAfee, look to benefit with rollouts of both endpoint and network DLP on tap.

Application-Aware Firewalls make a nice jump in the Heat Index, with Palo Alto and Check Point (CHKP) benefiting from the 28% of in-plan implementations. Palo Alto will be a vendor to watch as it is beginning to replace some of the major incumbent providers with its application-visibility-based approach.

The Information Security study was led by newly appointed Research Director Daniel Kennedy. “Information Security spending is very solid in 2011, and looks to remain that way for 2012. It is not difficult to see why, as significant data breaches in the last few years have never been far from the front page. In addition, environmental complexity continues to increase, including the effects of virtualization and cloud implementations, and consumer IT starts to drive enterprise IT requirements, especially in the mobile computing space,” cites Kennedy.

Prior to joining TheInfoPro, Kennedy was a Partner in the information security consultancy Praetorian Security, LLC, where he directed strategy on risk assessment and security certification. Before that, he was Global Head of Information Security for D.B. Zwirn & Co. (now Fortress Investment Group), as well as Vice President of Application Security and Development Manager at Pershing LLC, a division of the Bank of New York.

NEW YORK, July 19, 2011 –TheInfoPro, a division of leading analyst and data company The 451 Group, today released an in-depth Cloud Study that outlines the key market factors relating to cloud services growth. TheInfoPro is also happy to announce that Sean Hackett, Research Director of CloudScape at The 451 Group, TheInfoPro’s parent company, will be joining the TheInfoPro as Research Director for Cloud services.

The cloud study is completed biannually and is based on hour-long interviews with cloud decision-makers at large enterprises in North America. Key sections of the report include Cloud Drivers and Inhibitors, Cloud Budgets, Decision Making and Service Delivery Model Preferences, Service Management and Orchestration, and Vendor Preferences.

Key highlights from TheInfoPro Cloud Study include:

Fifty-two percent of interviewees said that internal change and learning was the leading roadblock to cloud project success. Pointing to possible pent up demand for advisory services, as users struggle with the change brought on by the cloud. Other project roadblocks included up-front cost (15%) and security (13%).

Cost reduction (68%) is the leading justification for implementing cloud services followed by increased flexibility/scalability (24%) and reduced complexity (21%), also key drivers toward the cloud.

A majority (75%), of respondents said that they have virtualized their cloud servers. However, few have currently implemented the core management, automation and orchestration functionality, which are all cornerstones to the enablement of truly flexible, agile and cost effective internal cloud solutions.

VMware continues to be the primary vendor selected for cloud enablement projects. For internal or private IaaS projects, 37% of interviewees said that VMware is their primary cloud enablement provider.

“The cloud market is at an inflection point right now and it’s critical to understand the opportunities for as well as barriers to adoption and growth,” said Ken Male, Managing Director and Founder of TheInfoPro. “In this study, we’ve applied TheInfoPro’s voice-of-the-customer research methodology and, now with Sean Hackett leading our Cloud practice, we’ve got the right combination of cloud analysis and underlying data from large IT organizations to give a clear picture of where the cloud market is heading”, continued Mr. Male.

“2011 continues to be the year of the internal cloud. Most organizations are increasing the efficiency and agility while lowering the cost of their internal IT assets”, said Sean Hackett, Research Director for Cloud at TheInfoPro. “Because of the cloud’s economics and speed of deployment and flexibility, by and large many initiatives are in-fact additive, enabling organizations to drive projects that they otherwise weren’t able to in the past. Vendor and Service providers will need to watch closely as the resulting shift will present opportunities and perils for both incumbents and emerging providers”, continued Mr. Hackett.

Mr. Hackett has over a decade of experience as an IT industry analyst and consultant.
Prior to TheInfoPro, Mr. Hackett was responsible for the CloudScape practice at The 451 Group, the parent company of TheInfoPro. Prior to joining The 451 Group, Mr. Hackett worked at CA Technologies in Corporate Strategy. Prior to CA Technologies, Mr. Hackett directed IDC’s IT Outsourcing and Utility Computing research program, where he was at the vanguard in identifying the disruptive potential of the cloud service-delivery model.

Networked storage capacity in the F1000 will grow a projected 24% this year, according to the latest
storage study conducted by TheInfoPro, a division of The 451 Group.

NEW YORK, May 5, 2011 – TheInfoPro, a division of leading analyst and data company The 451 Group,
today released its latest storage study, which points toward significant growth in the storage industry and
outlines the key market factors and main players driving that growth. The study is completed biannually, and
is based on hour-long interviews with storage professionals and primary decision-makers at large and
midsize enterprises in North America.

“The storage market continues to be the best performing – from a spending perspective – of all the IT sectors
we cover with our voice-of-the-customer research methodology,” said Ken Male, Managing Director and
Founder of TheInfoPro. “We have been studying the storage market since 2002, and saw in our latest
biannual study that storage expansion is being driven by new application growth – this is an excellent proxy
for the health of the companies we interview because it shows that business units are making bets on new
projects.”

Key trends from TheInfoPro Storage Study include:

Networked storage capacity in the F1000 will grow a projected 24% this year, with 44% of
organizations expecting to increase spending and 31% anticipating stable spending. The spending
projections nearly mirror what was captured for 2010.

The study suggests that 2011 will be a year of strong competition for unified storage leadership.
Currently, EMC is the lead vendor for Fibre Channel (FC) storage, while NetApp is the lead vendor
for network-attached storage (NAS).

Automated tiering is creating a reason to refresh array technology, which benefits solid-state disk
(SSD). Both technologies score high in TIP’s proprietary Technology Heat Index ™, which gauges
net new implementations by the F1000, detailing the vendors poised to benefit.

Virtual server protection choices may threaten traditional backup software solutions. Rather than
traditional methods used to protect physical servers, half of the respondents are using snapshots and
replication at the storage level. With this in place, those using backup for protection, rather than
archiving, can confidently switch or perhaps remove the traditional backup vendors knowing they
have an alternative protection.

Appliance model is gaining interest – it’s not yet a trend, but there is increasing discussion of Oracle
Exadata, VCE Vblock and other appliances.

HP’s 3PAR acquisition creates excitement, but is not yet translating to increased spending.

SAN is beating NAS for server virtualization capacity.

Less than one in 10 organizations have plans to use external cloud storage even for lower tiers,
including archive.

“Server virtualization transformed storage architectures, and cloud computing is having the same impact,”
says Marco Coulter, TheInfoPro’s Research Director of Storage. “In this study, we focused on both of these
themes, identifying the selection criteria used and the vendors meeting expectations. While all the M&A in
2010 might stifle innovation, the cloud alternatives out there are energizing storage professionals to be
creative in delivering services.”

About TheInfoPro Storage Study
TheInfoPro Storage Study was completed in April 2011, and takes an in-depth look at key trends across the
enterprises in North America. The interview results are collected in comprehensive research reports that
provide continuous business intelligence within key areas, such as technological road maps, spending plans
and vendor performance.

A sampling of other vendors covered in the Vendor Performance and Technology Roadmap components of
the study include: Cisco, Brocade, HDS, IBM, HP, Symantec, Dell, CommVault, QLogic, Emulex,
Quantum, Sepaton, Violin Scalable Memory, CA Technologies, Sepaton, FalconStor, Pillar Data Systems,
Xiotech, BlueArc, Texas Memory Systems, DataRobotics, Virtual Instruments, Autonomy and F5.

New York – June 28, 2010 – TheInfoPro, an independent research and advisory company for the IT industry, today released its Organizational Dynamics study for server organizations. The study reveals trends in key structural issues and extensive financial metrics for staffing server teams. It gives insight into the impact that technology and financial considerations will have on the evolution of server organizations and shows ranges and optimal cost levels of support staffing.

Larger Organizations Show Superior Metrics

In both x86 and RISC operations, in the results of analyzing staff costs and ratios of servers per staff FTE, the larger organizations showed better results in terms of financial metrics. To be sure, there are overlaps in the data, so size may not be a perfect efficiency barometer – but the results do seem to indicate that there is certainly a degree of advantage for the larger-sized operations. The size advantage takes staff compensation into consideration. In fact, the larger operations do compensate their staff somewhat more generously (although not a significant difference). Therefore, the cost difference between larger organizations and their medium- and smaller-sized competitors is due to operational efficiency and not compensation.

In addition, the study measured the use of contractor staff. One finding is that less than a third of organizations are making any use of technical support contract staff. And among those who do, the degree of use is quite low, reaching only about a third of total staff size.

Virtualization is Top of Mind
Virtualization is top of mind in nearly 100 percent of all server support teams, although a steep learning process has slowed adoption with only 15 percent of deployed servers virtualized. Virtualization as a whole, however, is being actively budgeted for. Additionally, end users provide valuable data demonstrating that while a high percentage (more than 70 percent) of organizations did not have a combined architectural group for systems and networking, only about 20 percent expected to have one within three years.

“Perhaps because virtualization is not broadly penetrated, an overwhelming amount of our end users said they do not have a separate group responsible for virtualization, which may also include storage and networking,” said Myron Kerstetter, managing director of organizational studies for TheInfoPro. “As more and more enterprises turn to virtualization for their server needs, it will be interesting to see whether separation becomes common.”

Operational Comparison of IT Performance
Hewlett-Packard remains the vendor most cited as in use among x86 participants, but Dell was strong as a primary supplier as well, and more so with the larger x86 operations. Windows (x86) and hardware vendor-supplied Unix also fared well among respondents in regards to operating systems in use, with Linux and VMware the most commonly considered as important OS products.

“While the technical issues facing server organizations today are well-known, the rapid pace at which the industry is evolving clouds the understanding of the impact that technology and financial considerations will have in the future,” said Ivan Ruzic, chief executive officer of TheInfoPro. “And while there are no absolute benchmarks in the complex server environment, the metrics collected in the study help to act as a reference point for operational comparison for Fortune 1000 companies looking to gauge the performance of their own IT organizations.”

Study looks in depth at how the economic slowdown is forcing new networking strategies

New York – May 17, 2010 – TheInfoPro, an independent research company for the IT industry, today released the results of its biannual networking study, which shows the extent to which midsize enterprises and the Fortune 1000 are adopting proven cost-cutting strategies such as telepresence and unified communications (UC) to combat the economic downturn. The results are positive, with the study indicating that telepresence has met the objectives of 77 percent of enterprises, with an overwhelming 66 percent of respondents planning to expand telepresence capabilities to additional sites. The data also shows that WAN optimization solutions remain in favor, although there are signs that that rate of adoption is slowing down.

“As with 2009, the key trend of 2010 among enterprises is striking a balance between cost-efficiency and effectiveness,” said Bill Trussell, managing director of networking research. “For companies that have been forced to either eliminate or reduce travel budgets due to the downturn and rising fuel prices, telepresence and UC have offered solutions that are both highly productive and low-cost to the network budget.”

While airlines don’t need to brace for major revenue loss just yet, the networking study indicates that 18 percent of enterprises have adopted telepresence with cost reduction as the primary business objective, and 14 percent indicated that they plan to move to telepresence within the next 12 months.

Unified communications maintains its position at the top of the Heat Index of data voice and video networking infrastructure solutions, with 25 percent of large and midsize enterprises indicating that they expect to boost the use of email, unified messaging, audio conferencing and instant messaging as a part of their UC strategies this year.

WAN optimization remains high on TheInfoPro Heat Index, coming in at seventh in the top 10; 64 percent of respondents indicated that WAN has achieved its intended purpose. When respondents were asked about spending changes, citations for increases in spending dropped from 46 percent six months ago to 28 percent for 2010, indicating that an expected maturation process may have begun. In fact, 62 percent of respondents who do not have WAN optimization in use indicated that it was unlikely they would reach a decision to utilize WAN optimization in the next 12 months, further supporting slower adoption growth.

TheInfoPro’s Networking Heat Index® is widely regarded as an effective measure of user demand for a technology, and from a vendor’s perspective, a good indicator of the relative size of the market opportunity.

Overall, a shift toward 802.11n standards moved increasing wireless LAN bandwidth up the priority list (5 percentage point bump in the past six months), ensuring it maintained the top spot on the Heat Index of data network infrastructure solutions.

Study Identifies Vendors Best Positioned to Take Advantage
The shift toward remote business technology has incredible potential for continued growth, which should come as an enormous benefit to Cisco and Juniper, both of which are well positioned to increase market share.

While 64 percent of enterprises are unlikely to change their provider in 2010, among those that will, Juniper captures the largest percentage – a direct result of increased favorability, most notably in terms of product ratings. In fact, the spending picture for Juniper is among the brightest in the industry.

Meanwhile, Cisco, which continues to battle Riverbed for WAN optimization solutions in plan, maintains strong customer loyalty. Spending has increased positively within all sectors as enterprises look for networking expenditure value, and the Tandberg acquisition places Cisco in the enviable position of second most frequently cited provider in the tightening IP video conferencing solutions market. Moving forward, Cisco’s 2010 outlook looks bright, aided by pent-up demand for 802.11n wireless solutions and burgeoning clamor for 100Gb Ethernet adoption brought on by the growth of virtualization.

Both Juniper and Cisco exceeded the averages for promise and fulfillment criteria for customer ratings.

Virtualization: A Trend to Watch
Unsurprisingly, the study confirms the cloud’s continued growth – nearly one-third of enterprises are using cloud computing services, with an additional 46 percent intending to do the same within the next two years. However, while 43 percent of enterprises indicate that virtualization has had a positive effect on their network, it remains to be seen whether capacity concerns slow down the virtualization revolution, with 34 percent of respondents very concerned about the impact of cloud services or architecture on their network.

New York – February 23, 2010 – TheInfoPro, an independent research company for the IT industry, today released the results of its Information Security Study, which showed that 40 percent (40%) of enterprises are planning to increase their 2010 security budgets. After a year of restricted spending and delayed projects, major infrastructure upgrade initiatives are finally happening for security IT departments. The study shows that enterprises are favoring the safety of one-stop, all-inclusive vendors, and consequently, the data shows Cisco rising as a formidable security provider.

Potential M&A Targets
As organizations embark on a comprehensive infrastructure refresh, Cisco is now leading in vendor selection for SSL VPN, network access control (NAC) and firewalls. Inside the perimeter, however, pure-play security companies still reign supreme, which could potentially point to them as suitable M&A targets in the coming months for the likes of Hewlett-Packard, IBM and other larger vendors.

“Check Point, McAfee and other similar providers would probably be the largest deals in the acquisition pipeline, each a leader in their respective, mainstream technologies, and each with a loyal customer base,” said Ivan Ruzic, CEO of TheInfoPro. “Smaller deals would most likely happen first, meaning that Blue Coat, WebSense and ArcSight could be to a larger organization what 3Com’s TippingPoint technology meant to HP.”

Key Security Concerns for Cloud
The study results, which are based on interviews with 259 organizations within the Fortune 1000 (F1000) and midsize (MSEs) market throughout North America, showed that 60 percent of organizations are already utilizing cloud-based infrastructure services or intending to do so in the next two years. Due to this growth, the largest area of concern for enterprises is how to deal with sensitive data being placed in not only an external cloud environment but also concern for data that is placed within clouds internal to their respective organizations. Nearly three out of four respondents (72%) cited being very concerned or extremely concerned about security in a cloud environment.

“Even with data pointing to a spending rebound, security professionals say they will spend cautiously and scrutinize each priority after many routine infrastructure updates were delayed,” said Bill Trussell, TheInfoPro’s Managing Director of Security Research. “Emerging trends in virtualization and cloud are driving much attention toward addressing data loss more aggressively.”

Enterprises Gear Spending Toward Protecting Data
For 2010, enterprise security professionals indicate that Symantec, McAfee, Microsoft and Cisco will be among the most likely beneficiaries of higher spending. McAfee has eclipsed Symantec as the most frequently cited provider of exciting security products, while Check Point returned to the list after being absent for more than a year.

TheInfoPro’s Technology Heat Index™ is widely regarded as effective measure of user “demand” for a technology, and from a vendor’s perspective, a good indicator of the relative size of the market opportunity. TheInfoPro’s Information Security Technology Heat Index cites event log management as the No. 1 priority in information security IT spending, with data loss prevention (DLP) and NAC ranking next, respectively.

DLP tops the IT projects list as well as the exciting technology solutions list. Security professionals have identified that both Symantec and McAfee are likely to be the preferred DLP vendors. Cisco and Microsoft still lead for NAC. LogLogic and Microsoft are top choices as vendors for event log management. For the first time in two years, NAC has fallen to the third spot, demonstrating that the technology has moved toward more mainstream adoption.

Deduplication and primary storage data reduction using deduplication tops lists in terms of demand and anticipated spending

New York – January 25, 2010 – After a year of heavy server and storage consolidation that slowed big-ticket spending throughout IT organizations, TheInfoPro, an independent research company for the IT industry, released new data today showing further effects of the recession on Fortune 1000 (F1000) and midsize enterprise (MSE) storage organizations.

The in-depth study, which is based on interviews with storage decision-makers in North America and Europe, reveals that while 45% of F1000 respondents plan to increase storage spending in the coming months, 29% still expect major budget decreases. In contrast, 41% of MSEs plan to increase storage spending this year, while 25% expect further reductions.

“Major spending increases won’t resume until new business application installs once again create massive demands on storage needs,” said Rob Stevenson, managing director of storage research for TheInfoPro. “In the interim, storage shops will focus on productivity improvement and hardware inventory adjustments to prepare for virtualization and cloud support needs.”

TheInfoPro’s Heat Indexes Identify Early Trends in Technology Adoption

TheInfoPro’s Storage Networking Heat Index® and Storage Backup and Recovery Technology Heat Index® are widely regarded as effective measures of user “demand” for a technology, and from a vendor’s perspective, good indicators of the relative size of the market opportunity.

In the latest study these have identified deduplication and primary storage data reduction as topping the needs of the F1000 and MSEs. The F1000 respondents’ planned use of solid-state disk (SSD), 8Gbps Fibre Channel and virtual server data management also showed up well.

Other Heat Index highlights include:

Increasing importance among the F1000 and MSEs of thin provisioning, email archiving, information lifecycle management and storage resource management.

Clear trends toward an expansion of automated tiering and provisioning, and backup virtualization management. Also of particular interest is the growth in block virtualization MSEs are planning in 2010.

MSE storage decision-makers plan to expand remote replication; 10GbE networking and enterprise serial-attached SCSI (SAS).

Study Identifies Winners and Losers Among Storage Vendors
The current study shows that each of the F1000’s most exciting vendors – EMC, NetApp and IBM – had a good year in 2009.

EMC’s acquisition of Data Domain boosted EMC’s deduplication in use share of the F1000 from around 5% to 25%.

Symantec, EMC and IBM appear consistently in the top five solution providers list for email archiving. IBM’s in use activity in the F1000 grew the fastest compared to the previous study, while both Symantec and CommVault showed considerable improvement.

Among MSEs, Compellent, 3PAR and Hitachi Data Systems are seen as being among the most exciting vendors, while the top three in use leaders are EMC, NetApp and Compellent.

Among the F1000, EMC, NetApp and IBM top the most exciting technology list. However, NetApp, EMC, IBM and HDS are all in a close race for dominance in virtualized provisioning, with EMC having a slight edge.

While just over 75% of users report having VMware in use today, nearly two-thirds have tested a hypervisor other than VMware, with Microsoft and Citrix most often mentioned. Of those who have tested an alternative, 27% plan to use the alternative, while an additional 20% report they “may” use it.

When VMware customers were asked if they would switch to an alternative, only 2% cited firm plans, while an additional 9% were considering it. The analysis reveals that VMware users aren’t switching away from VMware, but are probably embracing competing technologies in heterogeneous deployments.

New York – December 8, 2009 – TheInfoPro, an independent research company for the IT industry, today released its fall 2009 Server Study showing slow but recovering x86 server deployments, contrasted by strong growth in deployments of VMware, Windows Server and Linux, primarily Red Hat.

VMware is still the leading vendor in use and in plan for server virtualization, and few users report firm plans to switch from VMware to Hyper-V. However, this parallel deployment of Hyper-V, Citrix and Red Hat virtualization capabilities could signal a challenge to VMware’s dominance; this implies that heterogeneous environments will be commonplace, where VMware is used for production, and Hyper-V may grow through deployments for development and testing.

“Much of the strength of the VMware story is predicated on a homogeneous population of VMware servers under control of VMware management utilities,” said Bob Gill, managing director of server research for TheInfoPro. “The more heterogeneous the environment, the less VMware is positioned in the central infrastructural layer in the data center.”

Key Data in Server Hardware
TheInfoPro’s Server Study reflects a depressed server hardware market caused by a confluence of the economic downturn and the impact of server consolidation and virtualization that has been a top priority for the past several years:

One technology showing rapid penetration among respondents is server-driven desktop replacements/appliances. With the halo effect of server virtualization drawing interest to desktop virtualization, the percentage of users citing such technology as in use rose from 9% in Wave 7 to 18% in Wave 8. Interestingly, the percentage of those expressing no plans remained fairly constant, showing that pent-up demand is being satisfied, but new demand is not yet appearing.

10Gbps switches took the top spot in the Server Hardware Heat Index, as users prepare to upgrade their networking infrastructure for increasingly dense and demanding servers. Two percent (2%) report such switches in pilot, 5% in near-term plan, and 16% of the sample cited in long-term plan, which extends through Q3 2010.

Key Data in Server Software
This study showed that growth in infrastructure server software deployments, such as operating systems and virtualization software, continues much more strongly than growth in hardware units, driven by the efficiencies derived from server virtualization. Growth in the number of virtual machines deployed implies growth in virtualization software licenses, as well as for the OS instances required for each virtual machine.

Application monitoring and management tools, and discovery and inventory management tools, rank fourth and fifth respectively on the Heat Index, as users attempt to gain control over their increasingly virtualized and dynamic systems.

More than 60% of users project that more than half of all database systems will be run on 64-bit OS instances, up from just under 50% in 2009, implying substantial refreshing and upgrading of OS instances. More than two-thirds of respondents use Microsoft for back-end/database servers.

Eighty-three percent (83%) of respondents now report virtual machine software for midtier/application servers in use somewhere within their organization. This widespread deployment is illustrative of virtualization’s movement from strictly development and test applications to production applications.

Cloud/utility computing scores well on the Heat Index, based on the 13% who report it in long-term plan, but the vendors cited reflect an even split between respondents who are describing internal cloud development and those who are referring to using an external cloud provider.

Member of the Edison Director Network, former Edison company CEO and International Business Expert Hired to Expand TheInfoPro’s Position as a Leader in IT Research

New York – November 24, 2009 – TheInfoPro, an independent research company for the IT industry, today announced that it is continuing to strengthen its management team with the appointment of Ivan Ruzic as its chief executive officer. Ruzic, an IT industry veteran with extensive global experience, will lead all key facets of TheInfoPro’s global research business and accelerate the company’s go-to-market strategy, including the expansion of new research sectors such as cloud computing, virtualization, procurement and organizational dynamics for IT staffing.

“TheInfoPro is on an aggressive timeline to expand its research network of IT decision-makers and increase the types of data we can provide our vendor clients, the investor community and IT end users,” said Ryan Ziegler, of New Jersey venture capital firm Edison Venture Fund and TheInfoPro’s board chairman. “Ivan brings a high-level of operations experience in addition to being a successful global sales and marketing leader for public U.S. corporations as well as small to start-up size businesses. These skills will be critical to our company’s longer-term growth.”

Ruzic will now be at the helm of the largest network of IT decision-makers from over 800 U.S. Fortune 1000 and midsize enterprises and organizations. The prestigious network represents more than $24 billion in annual IT infrastructure spending. TheInfoPro offers highly customizable data in the sectors of networking, storage, servers and information security. Prior to joining TheInfoPro, Ruzic was the CEO of Exclaim, a leader in user-generated content, socialization and infotainment community applications for mobile consumers. Ruzic has also held key executive positions at several marquee IT companies, including Borland International, BEA Systems and Novell.

“TheInfoPro’s data and research products provide valuable insights to the IT community, including trends not even on the mainstream radar,” said Ruzic. “Our market intelligence was consistent with the market bottoming in late 2008 and I am cautiously optimistic about prospects for the IT industry in 2010. My priority is to expand TheInfoPro’s capabilities to ensure we’re an invaluable part of the IT decision-making process.”

Ken Male, founder and former CEO has stepped up to the role of Executive Vice Chairman and will work with Ivan to spearhead the company’s business development initiatives into new intelligence products, geographies and channels. Male will also continue to focus on expanding TheInfoPro to represent the Global 2000 and work closely with institutional investors to help them make intelligent, data-supported ratings of IT companies.

“As we move into the next year, executives will be forced to make concise IT decisions to support their corporate mandates, and leveraging our peer base is a critical component of their technology and vendor selection process,” said Ken Male, executive vice chairman for TheInfoPro. “Our management team now represents the best in IT research and corporate operations expanding TheInfoPro’s optimal platform for the Global 2000 to make informed IT strategies.”

Originally a native of Australia, Ruzic holds a B.Sc., with majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry, a Graduate Diploma in Information Technology and a Science Ph.D. from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

State of the IT marketplace in 2010 and beyond – new research from TheInfoPro

New York – November 18, 2009 – New research from TheInfoPro announced today at Interop New York 2009 outlines where Fortune 1000 (F1000) and midsize enterprises (MSEs) intend to focus their budget dollars and man-hours throughout 2010.

Based on interviews with more than 1,000 information technology decision-makers from more than 800 organizations in North American F1000 and MSE spaces, TheInfoPro’s research outlines where IT departments within these organizations stand in terms of budgets, technology roadmaps, and technology provider choices and ratings. Core infrastructure areas are covered including: storage, servers, networking, information security*, virtualization and cloud computing.

A key theme prevalent in the majority of organizations interviewed is that almost all respondents will see a continued halt on new IT projects, with available dollars being geared toward optimization projects and refresh components of the existing storage, networking and server infrastructures to support growth in virtualization.

Emerging Themes for 2010

Spending
While spending is expected to increase for 2010 and budgets are projected to be more fruitful, TheInfoPro’s studies provide the following themes across all sectors of IT:

Spending will focus on increasing existing infrastructure needs versus IT departments embarking on new projects or pilots.

Technology purchases will focus on the optimization of existing server, networking and storage assets, requiring a six- to 12-month ROI.

Hot new trends in technology will be prioritized if they’re easy to bring on and if they demonstrate a quick ROI.

Upgrade investments will be made to support virtualization performance demands, especially in the area of networking.

“There’s no truth to the hype that we are going to see a quick spending rebound after the year we’ve just had, but there is still a lot to be pleased with in terms of anticipated 2010 budgets,” said Ken Male, CEO of TheInfoPro. “We had hoped in the second half of 2009 business units would demand new projects, applications, lines of business, etc., but that has not been the case. However, there is benefit from these tough times; for example, IT departments will expand services based on the consolidation and virtualization measures that have worked well for them to get through this recession.”

Storage

After a year of consolidation, F1000 storage pros forecast a positive budget for 2010; however, new application demand remains uncertain.

In 2009, MSE budgets fared better than F1000 budgets. In 2010, the F1000 budgets are expected to increase more.

Deduplication, both backup and primary, solid-state disk, and 8Gbps refreshes top end users’ storage hardware priorities, while thin provisioning, archiving and e-discovery top end users’ storage management priorities.

NAS activity continues to expand for business analytics, application optimization and virtual server adoption.

Servers and Virtualization

Server spending turned net positive, with 30% of respondents indicating increased spending and 22% noting decreases for 2010.

Companies will need to invest more in hardware, but not all vendors will reap the benefits of those sales; respondents point to Dell and Hewlett-Packard as first-choice vendors.

Desktop virtualization will see an major increase in pilot programs and installations in 2010.

Networking

Early projections indicate fewer significant networking budget cuts in 2010 as compared to 2009, with 58% of respondents expecting spending to have flat to 10% growth.

High-ROI projects like WAN optimization continue to be deployed. To a lesser degree, unification of voice and video onto the enterprise backbone network is also moving forward when it can be accomplished without large infrastructure upgrades.

Fifteen percent (15%) of organizations are planning future adoption of IP video conferencing solutions. The increased use of this technology is meant to offset travel expenses and improve organizational effectiveness.

Citations for future adoption of unified messaging remain strong; an additional 29%, or nearly 75% of the current adoption rate, have unified messaging solutions in their plans for the next 12 months.

Cloud

While nearly 60% of server organizations are not evaluating or planning to use cloud computing, the percentage of these organizations indicating interest in adopting cloud computing has nearly doubled in the past year, going from 20% to 40%.

Thirty percent (30%) of respondents indicated they would be slow to adopt cloud computing due to immaturity of technology. Concerns over security followed closely behind, with 25% of respondents indicating this as their number one concern for adoption.

While internal models are favored (53%), there is a substantial number of organizations looking at a hybrid of both internal and external models (34%).

At Interop New York this week, Chief Research Officer Anders Lofgren will be joined by panel of colleagues discussing “The Best of Both Worlds: Can Hybrid Clouds Convince the Enterprise?”When: Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST
Where: Interop New York, Jacob Javits Convention Center
